Dish Towels are Addicting!

I love making dish towels! They are like mini quilts to me. I Give them away a lot but sometimes that is so hard because I want to keep each one. I got my husband (shhhh) to stitch a bunch and I crochet the bottoms. And have you ever notice we all have dish towel we won't use....LOL. These are the one I have wrapped in tissue and I hide them in a drawer. I guess when I die someone will have a fun find....hahahaha.

I love purses! Some women love shoes ...but I love purses! I love to buy them and I really believe you can never have to many. And As I explain to my husband, there so many shades of red so it doesn't matter if I already have a red one! LOL! I have found so many things with purses too. I have found picture frames shaped like purses, plates with purses on them and shirts with purses on the front. I even found a file folder that looks like a big PINK purse! But look how cute these place card holders from Brighton are! I use them on my desk at work to hold pictures of my kids. They are great picture holders. If you love purses let me know some of the fun things you have found too! I would love to hear!

I Love Williams - Sonoma!

I love to go to Williams - Sonoma! They always have the coolest finds! Well this week I was in there and spotted my new "Have To Have" (as my husband calls them). It is a pocket pie mold. They have a star one too! But I loved the heart. I went to their site and got this recipe. They are so fun to make you have got to try them. And aren't they the cutest "Have to Haves" you have seen in a while!
These individual pies are simple to prepare using our pocket pie molds. With their luscious cherry filling, the tasty treats are a perfect snack to enjoy at home or on the go.
Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt, plus a pinch
2 Tbs. plus 1/2 cup granulated sugar
16 Tbs. (2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch dice
6 to 8 Tbs. ice water
1 1/2 Tbs. cornstarch
2 cups fresh or frozen pitted sour cherries, thawed and drained if frozen
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 egg, lightly beaten with 1 tsp. water
Coarse sugar for sprinkling
Vanilla ice cream for serving (see related recipe at left)
Directions:
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the flat beater, beat together the flour, the 1 tsp. salt and the 2 Tbs. granulated sugar on low speed for 10 seconds. Add the butter and beat until the mixture resembles coarse meal, about 30 seconds. Increase the speed to medium-low and beat for 1 1/2 minutes more. Add the 6 Tbs. ice water, reduce the speed to low and beat for 20 seconds. The dough should hold together when squeezed with your fingers but should not be sticky. If it is crumbly, add more water, 1 tsp. at a time, and beat for 5 seconds after each addition. Divide the dough in half, wrap with plastic wrap and shape each into a disk. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or up to overnight.
In a saucepan, whisk together the 1/2 cup granulated sugar, the cornstarch and pinch of salt, then add the cherries and vanilla. Set over medium-high heat and cook until slightly thickened, about 15 minutes. Let the filling cool.
Let the dough stand at room temperature for 5 minutes. On a floured surface, roll out 1 dough disk into a round 1/16 to 1/8 inch thick. Brush off the excess flour. Using a pocket pie mold, cut out 8 of each shape (4 solid and 4 with the decorative cutout). Reroll the dough scraps, if necessary, and cut out more shapes. Repeat with the remaining dough disk.
Place a solid dough shape in the bottom half of the cutter and gently press the dough into the mold. Fill the center with 1 to 2 Tbs. cherry filling and brush the edges of the dough with some of the egg wash. Top with a shape with a decorative cutout. Press the top half of the cutter down to seal and crimp the edges of the pie. Remove the pie from the mold and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling. Freeze the pies for 30 minutes.
Preheat an oven to 400°F. Brush the top of the pies with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar. Bake until the crust is golden brown and the filling is gently bubbling, about 20 minutes. Transfer the pies to a wire rack and let cool for 10 minutes. Serve with vanilla ice cream. Makes about 8 pocket pies.

My Baby is Driving!

This is Bethany ...my baby! She just got her official license ....no more learners. And she is off to the store for her first time driving on her own. I am not sure I like this.

She was so glad to go on her own but she didn't think I had to take pictures....wait until she sees she on my blog.....hahahahaha
There is something about your last one getting to drive. It means no more Dolls for sure and Independence. I really don't like this. But once I get used to not having to be the one always going to the store and I now have someone to send....It might be just fine!

I Love Blackbird Designs!

I was blog surfing and over at Blackbird designs and they have the cutest quilt pattern and its free! This picture below is the one from their blog. See it is so cute!

They are doing it in parts so look for all the parts.

These are all the cut pieces! You use 2 Jelly Rolls and what ever you choose for the back ground fabric. I am going to use white.

They have you sew a straight line from corner to corner and cut over 1/4 inch from seam. I have a hard time waisting all the fabric so theses are my scrap blocks. I figure They can be used to make a baby quilt or pillow cases.

Here is the first and second blocks! SO I have started!

I do have about 20 blocks blocks done now so I am getting excited! I hope they post the finishing soon.....

I was at Costco today looking thru the books when s girl passes by me pushing a cart full of books! I squeeled when I saw it the the fifteenth book! I love the series Janet Evanovich writes! I can hardly wait until each book comes out. These are just fun reading. They are all about bounty hunter Stephanie Plum. After you start reading these you will want to read all of them now! You will change your mind over and over again as to who she should be with...Ranger the dark mysterious handsome security expert or the equally as handsome cop Joe. Oh my gosh they are so fun. And she has a crazy Grandmother you just laugh out loud as you read about her. You really should start at the beginning with "One for the Money". So there will be no sewing for me this weekend because I know I won't be able to put down this book.

Have any of you bought this book? I love it! This book has so many fun ideas and all the pictures are so fun to look at. After you by one of her books you will want them all. Her dolls are all so cute too. The patterns are simple and the instructions are very easy to read. Even if you haven't got much sewing experience these books are great to start with. I bought one and that was it I wanted them all. Some of her books haven't made it into english yet and I don't think that will stop me from wanting them. If you haven't seen one yet run over to your favorite Quilt Shop and sneek a peek. You will love them too!

The Cutest Little Trailer!

Finally Found My Vintage Trailer!

This is it! I am so excited! we have been looking for a Vintage Trailer to fix up and we finally found one! This is a 1947 Kit Companion and its all in tactic and everything is still the original. It has a cute little white stove and fridge....I am so excited to fix it up!! I will post pictures so you can see the progress!! Well, today is the Shop Hop so I am off to get fabric for a quilt and curtains! Talk to you soon!

Oh My Gosh!
I think I got the best apron! In fact I am sure I did! This is the custest apron and so much work went into it! I can't get over how cute! I don't want to wear it ....Just hang it on my pantry door as decoration! I just could not believe all the detail in this apron and the tag she made too! Jany included a cute book and a package of sunflower seeds too! This was such a fun trade I really had fun so Thanks to Jany Schindler for the Beautiful Apron and to Lucy and Shawnee for having such a fun trade!

Yes! Yes! I can machine applique again! My Bernina died a few weeks ago and so I put a new one on layaway. I thought it would be in layaway forever! But as a Great Surprise My Husband called all over (because he didn't know what kind or where) to find my layaway. He found it and went and got it out of layaway for Mother's Day! And no I won't give him away! I posted this on my other blog and it was so nice I had to share on this one too. I have been sewing like crazy. I have other machines but of course they don't have the basket stitch. I was kidding my husband and said now I need a back up. Just in case....He didn't laugh.

Piper's Quilt shop

We Love to go to quilt shops when we travel....or rather I do. So I will start again....I love to drag everyone to the quilt shops when we travel. But living in Salt Lake City there are so many to choose from. Then I don't have to drag any family....and I can stay as long as I want. During the summer I love to go to Piper's. This picture is from the shop hop last summer. It is in a darling old house nestled in Sugarhouse.

They always hang quilts on the porch.

And it is so fun to see which ones they hang up.

These pictures are from last summer but I wanted you to see the hollyhocks. They grow all down the sides of the house and look so pretty. When you turn in to park, you go down a drive way and park behind the house. The hollyhocks grow on both sides. It just looks so pretty.

Last year at the end of the season they gave away starts. So I hurried up and got a bunch and planted them all in my own yard. I sure hope they grow. I don't have much of a green thumb.

YoYo's are the Best Game in Town!

I have become addicted to making yoyos. And with the yoyo makers they are so easy! In the 1930's Retro Club at Material Girls we make yoyo's to trade each month. And thats how I got started. We use the orange yoyo maker. These have been so fun to make each month, but I discovered this week, the large yellow yoyo maker. You can use "Charm Packs" to make these. The ones above are from a "Charm Pack" and that makes it so easy! No cutting ahead of time! This is the beginning of a table cloth I am so excited to get this done! This is just like a game. After I got 80 yoyo's done we all sat around the table trying different ways to put them together.

Do any of you use the Electric Quilt program? This quilt is one I did using EQ. It was so fun I have done several more. The only problem is I have designed more than I have made. I would love to see some you have done.

I thought I would finish today by sharing a few special things in my sewing room. This bear sits in a basket in my sewing room on top of "Fat Quarters'. My Daughter Bethany gave her to me and she also decorated the basket (below) with buttons and the Bear with a spool for my sewing room. I think she did a great job. Teddy Bears and quilts just go together.

This is the latest block we are working on in the "1930's Retro Club". Isn't this the cutest block! I can't wait to get mine done. The club meets once a month and it is held at "Material girls". We are working on Lori Holt's Apron quilt and it is so fun. I think I have done almost all of lori's BOM but this one, so its been fun. I didn't say I have finished them all....don't tell Lori...But I really enjoy what ever she comes up with. I did hear the next one Lori is doing at Material Girls is going to be paper dolls! I love finding fun blogs to follow!

I took the leaf out of my table and it had been so long I don't have any table cloths that fit. So I improvised! Besides I love using my quilts as a table cloth. I just have to remember to remove it at dinner. I have had a few ruined when I left them on. We are in the process of repainting my kitchen so the blue is going away. I always seem to get ahead of the game...So the blue will be a golden yellow soon.

Here is another dress form i thought I would share. I love these! But they sure don't photograph well. I have these "Everywhere" as my husband so nicely puts it. LOL

HELP! I Can't Stop Blogging!

I went to start a new quilt and passed by my computer.....and now I am surfing blogs and decide to post. I am going to go work on that quilt .....but have you noticed you just sit for a minute to look at a FEW blogs and hours go by!! I can't believe it! But there are so many great quilting blogs. And recipe blogs! I just get carried away. So instead of pictures of my new quilt I am going to share another dress form and one of my favorite pictures in my room. Tommorrow I will start the new quilt....or maybe i will finish the purse one from Buggy Barn. Or......

Special Thimbles!

Can you believe these are thimbles! My friend Robert went to Europe and brought these back for me! I think they are the cutest ones I have in my collection. And he brought them all the way from Brussels. I was so excited about them I had to show you. I really felt lucky to get these. Thanks again Robert! I have really liked collecting thimbles and when my friends travel its an easy small gift to bring back for me. It is so much fun adding them to my collection. And thinking of the person that gave me such a wonderful prise.

Warm Snuggle!

I finally finished quilting this quilt. I think it looks so good on this couch. I made this with a jelly roll and fat quarters. It was fun to put together but it took me longer to get it quilted than it did to make it. I love having a quilt to lay under when you are watching TV or just taking a nap. Just reminds me of a warm snuggle. I have a quilt rack by the couch in our TV room so there are always enough warm snuggles for my grand kids when they watch TV.

Dress Forms and Quilts!

I love dress forms and so when I found this pattern I was so excited! This was an easy pattern and fun to make. I thought it would be fun in a little girls room done in different pinks. In my house going up the stairs there is a nook built into the wall. This is a great place for a quilt. I used to change it every season but it got to be to much work. I have dress forms all over my but I love this display. Below is one of my favorite forms.

This dress form reminds me of a nice summer day. Right now we could use a warm day! Quilt displays are so much more fun when it goes with something you love and collect. I saw a quilt once a woman who collect tea cups had done. It hung on a shelf that had different tea cups on top. I thought this was so cute. So when I found this pattern I was really excited.

New Quilting Project

I am so excited to sew this quilt. I love Buggy Barn's books and this newest one is darling. This one is just fun and since I love purses it was the perfect one to make for me! I am saving the trimming until I have them all done.

I bought this book to make the quilt on the cover and I will "AFTER" I make the purse one. LOL

I just love how you cut all the pieces out at once. And change the layer.

I think it would be so fun to plan a quilting trip to Washington to go take a class at the"Buggy Barn". But who could decide which class!! I would want to take them all. Have any of you been lucky enough to take a class from these girls?

Quilting up Dish Towels!

Hello Girls,
Whenever I need a quick gift or just want to make something fast and fun I make a DISH TOWEL!!! These are my favorite things to make. A little fabric, Heat n Bond and a sewing machine and WALLA a Gift! I make these for my girlfriends for their birthdays and the hard thing is getting them to use them.

For Christmas my "wonderful" Husband got me a "Cricut Expression" and I use it to cut fabric. They are perfect for making dish towels. You iron Heat n Bond on the back of your fabric and run it thru like paper. You can do words and shapes. I love it.

I like to use flour sack dish towels and I get them at "Sams Club". I iron the pieces in place and sew a basket stitch around all the pieces. This one I added a button for the flower center and folded it in half and tied it with raffia.

This one has button centers too. I sewed the buttons on with crochet thread, tie a knot and then a bow. If I plan the gift I have time to crochet the bottom.

Crocheting the bottom is so easy. You use a small hook and it pushes thru very easy. I have done it this way for years and the wash up nice too!

My sister is a first time Grandma and I am sure she will spoil Lulu to pieces. Lulu is so lucky to have her for a grandma, I know because my kids were lucky to have her as an Aunt. The quilt in the sewing room picture is for Lulu. I hope she will love it!

Where do I go to create so many quilt tops? Well let me show you!

This is my sewing room...I love my sewing room. My husband made it for me (and I won't say how long it took him ) but I will say it was worth the wait! I remember when he first got it done and I thought I would never be able to fill it....

hahahaha was I wrong!

I was so lucky to find a fabric for my cutting/ironing table that matched the bottom wall paper!And all the cupboards help for storing all the "have to have" fabric. You can never have to much.

My rocker is a great place to just sit and read quilting books or watch CSI!! Or do both.
It so comfortable I have even feel asleep there plenty of times.

This doll sits in a wreath on the wall and I love the wreath ....I am the only one who likes it.
Oh well it is my sewing room.

My husband made this cute cupboard to go with my sewing table (he made it too)
It has been so fun finding things to go it it.

This is my sewing table. Before I had a sewing room it served as our kitchen table. And sewing with my featherweight is always a treat. I am looking for 1 more base for my husband to make a cutting table on.
Now you can see the part that looks the messiest. But I swear it is organized.

And finally here is the quilt I am working on now. It is for my nephew's baby that is due any day. I guess I better hurry since it still needs to be quilted.
